Berkshire was born out of a desire to change the way we think about what's possible in regards to sustainable manufacturing. Climate change is real, and our daily actions have huge impact and play a direct role in our shared future. We believe that there is a world in which we can furnish our rooms more responsibly, while still having the freedom to express ourselves and carve out a unique place to call home.
When we started berkshire, our guiding principle was that we would never create anything that didn't serve a purpose or solve a problem. That means producing a limited-run that's focused first and foremost on reducing waste. We do this by sticking to a core group of styles and seasonal colors, and avoiding trends that end up here today and gone tomorrow.
All of the materials we use are either 100% recycled — eliminating plastic water bottles by spinning them into incredibly soft fabric, or sourced from sustainable producers of merino wool and organic cotton, which have a decreased carbon footprint, and are a renewable resource and more natural alternative (compared to harsh, chemically-treated fabrics like polyester and nylon).
We're constantly pushing ourselves to find new means of production, like our most recent initiative that allows us to create select blankets and throws using half as much water as traditional manufacturing. We know that trying to limit our carbon-footprint is a never-ending journey. There is always more to be done, new processes to be implemented, and new frontiers of sustainable manufacturing to discover. But rather than overwhelm us, it invigorates us. We're proud and excited to challenge ourselves every day to become the most sustainable brand possible. From materials, to packaging, to how they arrive on your doorstep. Stay tuned for more in the coming months about what we're doing to help make a difference.
