How to Make the Most of #SelfCareSunday

More than just bubble baths, face masks, and candles, #SelfCareSunday is an opportunity to take care of your emotional, physical, and mental health. What self-care means to you, is special to you and if you feel complete, relaxed, and joyful, you have a successful #SelfCareSunday. Here are a few somewhat unconventional ideas to help you take care of yourself on Sundays.  

Get outside.  

Whether you go for a walk, do a little gardening, run or jog, hike, or even just sit in a park, being outdoors scientifically improves your mood, boosts energy, and helps improve concentration. Studies show that Vitamin D, known as the sunshine vitamin, may help fight off conditions such as osteoporosis, depression, heart attacks, and strokes. 

Immersing yourself in nature can reduce stress and blood pressure and provide you with a feeling of calmness and connection. Nature’s therapeutic effects are nearly endless. This Sunday, try taking a walk in your park or take a few moments to enjoy the springtime wildflowers. 


Cuddle your dog.  

Just like when you get a hug from a loved one, snuggling your dog can have many benefits to both you and your pup. When you cuddle your dog, you will experience elevated levels of Oxytocin – the “love hormone” that give you feelings of happiness. It can also lower your levels of Cortisol, which is the body’s stress hormone. Cuddling your dog also treats them to a little bit of #SelfCareSunday too. Dogs are pack animals and find comfort in knowing that you are there for them.  


Go on a date with yourself.  

Going on a date with yourself doesn’t mean going shopping or doing any errands by yourself. It means doing something that you think is enjoyable, relaxing, creative, or exciting and doing it all for yourself. Here are some solo date ideas: 

  • Brunch and a stroll through a flower shop. Maybe even treat yourself to a fresh bouquet. 

  • Nothing is more relaxing than a spa day. Complete with a massage, mani-pedi, facial, and sauna or hot tub.  

  • Dinner and a movie solo means not having to share the last bite of desert or the popcorn at the theater.  

  • Begin your day at your favorite coffee shop. Make your way to your favorite lunch spot and a stroll through a museum sounds like the perfect day.  

The most important thing to remember about #SelfCareSunday is that it doesn’t need to be complicated. The goal of self-care is to make you feel emotionally, physically, and mentally well. If these ideas aren’t how you picture a Sunday devoted to wellness, that’s ok! Everyone’s idea of #SelfCareSunday is unique and special.
