A Guide to Finding the Perfect Bedding

The reason you’re not getting a good night’s sleep may be the bedding you have. If you are fighting with your sheets, blanket, comforter, or duvet, you might just have the incorrect bedding for how you sleep. While there are many factors that go into how well you sleep – like your mattress and your bedtime routine – good bedding is also ranked among the top ingredients needed to get a restful night’s sleep. But how do you know what bedding is right for you? Here are some things we think might be helpful to know as you are shopping for a new bedding set.

Material can have a huge influence on how well a fabric breathes and how warm it will keep you. It is important to consider the characteristics of the fabric before making a purchase. Egyptian cotton is often referred to as the gold standard for sheets, as they are durable, versatile, and smooth. While linen is equally as breathable but has naturally occurring moisture-wicking properties to help keep you cool in the hotter months.

Microfiber is made of tightly woven synthetic fibers that help you maintain a good body temperature and is very durable and extremely low maintenance. Microfleece is a material that makes the coldest nights feel perfectly comfortable. With moisture-wicking properties, Microfleece will keep you warm while offering breathability to keep you comfortable but not hot.

Thread Count

Thread count is the total number of vertical and horizontal threads per square inch on a textile. High thread count is often equated to high quality, but this isn’t always true. Thread counts that are the most comfortable and durable are in the range of 200-400. When you see very high thread counts, the fabrics and threads may be manipulated which can result in a less durable, lesser quality fabric.

At berkshire, we want you to be a fully informed consumer, so we have made our product listings as detailed as possible. On each item, you will find a warmth rating to help you figure out how warm you will enjoying that item.

Lightweight fabrics are great for using in the summer months, or if you tend to sleep hot year-round. Lightweight fabrics include cottons, linens, and microfiber.

All Season fabrics are great for the average sleeper to use all year-round. These fabrics include VelvetPlushSoftPlushShimmerPlushand some cotton blends

Heavyweight fabrics provide our highest level of warmth – meant for those who sleep cold or live in cooler climates. These fabrics are meant to keep you warm, while still offering a level of breathability to keep you the perfect temperature.

Sleep is one of the most important factors when it comes to your overall health and wellness. Using the right bedding for your temperature preferences will help you sleep comfortably all night long and will make your days more productive, your mood better, and your overall feeling more positive.

Finding the perfect bedding is easy with our filtering tool.
